Samantha & The Civil War Greenhouses.
For years I passed by these greenhouses on my way to and from. They always grabbed my attention. I told my dad about them and he instantly knew, they were made from photographic glass plates used during The Civil War. Of course when your father tells you something interesting and unexpected you kind of ignore or scoff at it. Sure enough, he was right. They used plate glass coated in photographic chemicals to take photos during The Civil War. After the war there were many images left over, surely unneeded. However, people found a use. A wooden frame, coats of white paint, and glass plate photographs, their images to be bleached in the sun over time.
I’m not sure what crops this farm originally had its business in, but now it houses a peach farm, in Upstate New York. I think that is just wonderful.
This all lead to one autumn afternoon, after enough years passing by, I knew everything was looking just right for photos conveying the magic and history I saw in them. This is how you’ve come to see these images of Samantha in her late mothers dress, rivaling these greenhouses for the star of the photos.
